Rambert Dance Company Archive
In preparation for the Rambert Dance Company's move to its new purpose built site on the Southbank in the Autumn of 2013, we were contracted to document, condition report and repack the costume archive for long-term storage to be housed in the purpose built store
In order to provide optimum access to the collection we photographed each object using a dedicated photographic area in the studio enabling us to take high resolution images. This allows the archivist, Arike Oke to work with the collection freely without having to handle objects unnecessarily.
There were well over 500 objects, ranging from Marie Rambert's costumes to more contemporary pieces such as full body Lycra® suits, papier mâché masks and needless to say lots of ballet shoes and leotards.
It was crucial to ensure that the collection was ordered efficiently and in accordance with what worked best for the company, while providing the upmost care for the objects.
The Rambert's new home is a beautifully considered contemporary structure, which compliments the surrounding area perfectly.
